App and game translation and localization

App and game content often appears in limited space, changes dynamically and depends on context. Correctly translating individual strings may not be enough without screen context. Sen Vang reviews app, game and release-support content. Agree source files, character limits, terminology and interface review scope before starting.

Identify content requiring translation

Beyond menus and buttons, users encounter errors, onboarding, automated emails and app-store content. Games also contain dialogue, item names, abilities and quests. Categorizing content supports the right style and helps identify repeated text.

  • UI strings, forms, notifications and user instructions.
  • Dialogue, quests, items and in-game content.
  • Store descriptions, release notes and user support materials.

Preserve the structure your product needs

Mark variables, formatting tags and identifiers clearly so they are not changed. Send system exports with instructions identifying editable sections. JSON, CSV and other formats need review before processing is confirmed. For plurals, gender and dynamically combined strings, provide display examples to reduce ambiguity.

Localize for context and style

Buttons need concise action text, dialogue should retain character voice and error messages should explain the next step. Provide screenshots, flow descriptions or suitable test access. Glossaries and address conventions support screen-to-screen consistency. Discuss culturally sensitive adjustments with the product team before making changes.

Language review before release

After import, check clipped strings, corrupted characters, variables and misplaced content. This review must be scoped separately from text translation. Quotes depend on words or strings, creative requirements, languages and in-app review. For ongoing products, discuss version-based delivery and change tracking.

Information before
you begin

Should I provide screenshots?

Screenshots or context descriptions are recommended for short or ambiguous strings so wording fits the action and location.

Will variables in strings be changed?

Variables and technical identifiers should be preserved according to developer instructions. Identify protected content and provide sample files before work begins.
